How Many Tiers Does a Traditional Wedding Cake Have? When I was learning how to stack large cakes like this I watched so many tutorials and it seemed like everyone was overcomplicating the process. Of course, one wouldn't want to use a plate more than a few inches smaller than the tier diameter, b/c that wouldn't be very stable.
